BIO
Kris is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter working in Central and Southern CA. He is WAYERI's guitar and bass player. Kris is a versatile musician who also performs with BHAKTI GRIOTS, CUCHATA and as a soloist. His solo work contains songs of social-political messages about life and lost and found love. His music can be described as warm, soulful and disarming. BHAKTI GRIOTS, a band based out of San Diego, CA brings African & Asian Indian rhythms and dance to the stage to perform conscious Afro beat, Bhangra, Funk and Hip-Hop. CUCHATA, based out of Los Angeles, is a dichotomy of modern and ancient sounds, combining folkloric Afro-Latino styles with more modern influences.
Sharin is lead precussionist and a versatile musician and teacher. Sharin originally played Cuban and Latin rythmns as he grew up among Santa Barbara's multi-cultural artist community. He then expanded to West African drumming. His musical preference is dance music. Sharin plays for the monthly free movement dance class Dance Tribe.
Sharin taught West African drumming for many years in Santa Barbara and also performs with BAOBAB, a group that plays celebrative music & dance, inspired by the traditions of Africa and the world. Sharin's music is influenced by his world travels, having visited Europe, Africa and South America, among other countries

Olivia started WAYERI under the name CULTURAS in 1997 with Javier Medina. CULTURAS was dedicated to the conservation and performance of multi-cultural music. Since then the group has seen many changes and many faces come and go along with a name change. Olivia is lead vocalist and primarily rythmn guitar player for WAYERI, but also plays Cuatro Venezolano and Bombo. Olivia's voice has been describe as "Silk in the wind", and "..so soft I'd like to wrap myself in it." She has spent many years studying and performing music from South America, Central America, Mexico and Cuba. She is also involved with African drum and dance and studies with Molik Sow.
Olivia's primary influences were Latin American visitors to the United States, who she met in church growing up in Santa Barbara's Spanish speaking neighborhoods. She studied theory, guitar and piano in junior high, high school and college but dedicated the best part of her time to Economics and Business studies. Olivia's interest in multi-cultural music stems from her resolve to highlight cultures that may by lost to us forever.
